This is a vista of Summerhome which is only available for a short time of the year. Usually from here it is obscured by roses and deciduous shrubs which grow in the middle of the garden. A guided tour of the lower drive this time of the year reveals masses of white blossom and the soft pink new leaves of the Paeonia rockii which grows under the protection of the plums. The lower drive is also a great place to listen to the birds singing in the wilderness. They are hard to see but with a bit of stealth they can be tracked down and observed as they feed in the bush. It’s always fun to explore along the path through the wilderness. When we were children we sometimes found an echidna there or blue tongued lizard. Those were the days when Summerhome had 24 acres of paddocks running next to the bush.
